  • First Worshipful Master of King Lodge: Dr. Templeton was a primary architect of Bristol's Masonic history. When King Lodge No. 461 was organized Under Dispensation (U.D.) in 1874, he served as its inaugural Worshipful Master, guiding the lodge through its official chartering by the Grand Lodge of Tennessee on November 9, 1874. He remained in the East as Master through 1876, establishing the foundational bylaws and initial degree structure for the brethren.
  • Profession and Civic Leadership: Templeton was a prominent medical doctor in Bristol during the town's rapid post-Civil War growth and reconstruction. As a physician, his professional standing and civic credibility lent significant weight to the newly formed lodge, helping to attract other local leaders.
  • Final Resting Place: Dr. Templeton is buried in Bristol’s historic East Hill Cemetery (which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places). According to accounts from local historian Bud Phillips in the Bristol Herald Courier, Templeton's grave is marked by a medium-sized monument standing near the edge of the high bank overlooking the older sections of the cemetery, placing him alongside fellow pioneers and charter lodge members like William Phillip Brewer.
