King Lodge members volunteering at Zollicoffer Lodge's Annual Apple Butter Tradition which Supports Local College Scholarships
For over 33 years, Zollicoffer Lodge No. 444 has upheld a proud tradition of making homemade apple butter to raise funds for local college scholarships. Each fall, this community-driven project kicks off by gathering a trailer load of fresh apples, which are then taken to the Ron Ramsey Agricultural Center kitchen. There, the apples are washed and cored, ready for the next step in the process.
Once prepped, the apples make their way to the Cannery in Castlewood, Virginia, where they are carefully cooked and canned into the delicious apple butter Zollicoffer Lodge is known for. The entire process requires tremendous effort, and it’s a true testament to the spirit of brotherhood within Freemasonry. This year, we were fortunate to receive help not only from Zollicoffer Lodge members but also from our brothers at King Lodge No. 461 and Johnson Lodge No. 274.
It was an honor for several members of King Lodge to participate in this long-standing charitable tradition. Charity, after all, is one of the core principles of Freemasonry, and projects like these exemplify the ways we strive to make a positive impact in our local communities.
