A Night of Fellowship and Growth: Master Mason Degree at King Lodge with Special Guests from Ohio

On September 19th, 2024, King Lodge No. 461 had the privilege of hosting a Master Mason degree with special guests from Ohio, adding an extra layer of fellowship to an already memorable evening. We were contacted by Brothers Brian Jenkins (Worshipful Master), Frank Schumaker, and Marcus Cosker of Shelby Lodge No. 350 in Shelby, Ohio, who informed us that they would be attending the Bristol Race and wished to stop by for the degree. We wanted to make this visit special and extended our hospitality with a delicious meal.

Brother Jim Pepper prepared smoked brisket, Brother David Smith made homemade potato salad, Brother Lee Hoffnung served baked beans and corn, and Brother Weston Leonard delighted everyone with homemade ice cream and warm apple pies. To top it off, Brother David Williams’ wife contributed a wonderful dessert, which has become a tradition at our gatherings.

The brothers from Shelby Lodge shared that Brian Jenkins has been attending the Bristol Race for the past 15 years, camping out each time. For several years, he had hoped to visit King Lodge, but the timing never coincided with a degree. This year, we were fortunate enough to align schedules, and the idea was passed around to make this an annual tradition—welcoming our brothers from Ohio with a meal and fellowship before the race each year.

The degree was attended by 8 visiting brothers and 10 members, including Brother Jim Pepper, our 50-year member. The degree work was conferred by Brother Weston Leonard, our lodge’s Secretary, with much-appreciated assistance from Brother Jerry O’Dell, a past master of King Lodge, and Brother Vernon Dodson, a past master of Zollicoffer No. 444.

Congratulations to Brother David Williams, our newest Master Mason, as he embarks on his lifelong journey through Masonry. Brother Mason Baker, who was raised last week, not only assisted in the degree but also delivered a heartfelt message to Brother Williams, marking the close of the meeting with a spirit of camaraderie and support.

If you are interested in Freemasonry or would like to learn more about our lodge, please visit our contact page and reach out. We are always happy to welcome those seeking to embark on this journey of brotherhood and self-improvement.
